The lion and the jackal story……Long ago, a powerful lion lived in a cave nestled in the Himalayas. A clever jackal also inhabited the same forest. In his younger years, the jackal hunted frequently and enjoyed a happy existence, but as he aged, his hunting success diminished, and he grew weak.
One day, he observed a lion successfully hunting a buffalo. The lion ate his fill and then abandoned the remaining carcass. After the lion departed, the jackal consumed the leftovers, satisfying his hunger.
He pondered, “Why not befriend this mighty lion.”One day, as the lion was returning to his den, the frail jackal lay prostrate before him on the path. When the lion inquired about this posture, the jackal replied, “Your Majesty, I wish to become your loyal follower.
Please grant me your protection. I will serve you faithfully and subsist on your discarded meals.”The lion agreed to keep him nearby. From that day forward, The lion and the jackal started living together, and they would often hunt .
The lion would make the kill, and the jackal would feast on what was left. Within a few weeks, the jackal regained his strength significantly. Observing the lion’s impressive hunting abilities daily, the jackal began to overestimate his own capabilities, even considering himself the lion’s equal.

were discussing their next day’s hunt,One day. The jackal boldly declared to the lion, “Listen to me! I am now as strong as you. Today, I will hunt an elephant myself, devour its meat, and offer the remainder to you.” The lion, out of their established friendship, did not drive him away but instead offered a gentle, cautionary smile and advised against such an endeavor.The jackal, puffed up with pride, disregarded the wise counsel.
He ascended to the hilltop, where the lion and the jackal spotted a herd of elephants. He then let out three loud cries, imitating a lion’s roar, and leaped towards the largest elephant. Tragically, he landed on the elephant’s foot instead of its head. The elephant, lumbering along in a seemingly dazed state, placed its massive foot directly upon the jackal’s head.
In an instant, his skull was crushed.This is how the friendship between Leon and Jackal ended. Witnessing this grim outcome, the lion remarked in a serious tone, “Such is the fate of those who become arrogant due to their own foolishness.
“Lesson: Arrogance and stupidity are often intertwined; therefore, one should always avoid being arrogant in life.
The lion and the jackal: The Dangers of Arrogance/ सियार और शेर: अहंकार के खतरे
बहुत समय पहले हिमालय की एक गुफा में एक ताकतवर सिंह निवास करता था। उसी जंगल में एक सियार भी रहता था । सियार बहुत चालक था । अपनी जवानी के दिनों में उसने खूब शिकार किया और आनन्द से जीवन जिया लेकिन जैसे जैसे उम्र बढ़ी,शिकार हाथ आना कम हो गए और वह कमजोर होता गया ।
एक दिन उसने सिंह को एक भैंसे का शिकार करते देखा । शेर ने शिकार का भर पेट आनंद लिया और शेष वहीं छोड़ गया । शेर के जाने के सियार ने बचा खुचा मांस खा कर पेट भरा । उसने सोचा,क्यों न इस शेर से मित्रता कर ली जाए ?
एक दिन जब शेर अपने आवास की ओर लौट रहा था।
मार्ग में एक सियार ने उसे धरती पर लेटकर साष्टांग प्रणाम किया। सिंह ने इसका कारण पूछा, तो सियार बोला, “महाराज! मैं आपका अनुचर बनना चाहता हूँ, “कृपया मुझे अपने संरक्षण में लें। मैं आपकी सेवा करूंगा और आपके जूठन से अपना निर्वाह कर लूंगा।”
सिंह ने उसे अपने साथ रख लिया। अब सियार शेर की सेवा में लग गया, दोनों शिकार पर जाते। शेर शिकार करता और सियार बचे भोजन का लुफ्त लेता । कुछ हफ्तों में ही सियार हृष्ट-पुष्ट हो गया। रोज़ सिंह के पराक्रम को निहारते-निहारते उसने स्वयं को भी सिंह समझना शुरू कर दिया।
एक दिन उसने सिंह से घोषणा की, “सुनो! अब मैं भी तुम्हारी तरह बलवान हो चुका हूँ। आज मैं स्वयं हाथी का शिकार कर उसका मांस खाऊंगा, और बचा हुआ भाग तुम्हें दे दूंगा।” सिंह ने उसे मित्रता के कारण टोका नहीं, परंतु हंस कर उसे ऐसा न करने को समझाया ।
अहंकार में चूर सियार ने सलाह न मानते हुए पहाड़ी शिखर पर चढ़कर हाथियों के झुंड को देखा। सिंह की दहाड़ की नकल करता हुआ चीखा और सबसे बड़े हाथी पर कूदा किंतु उसके सिर के बजाय पैर पर गिर पड़ा ।
हाथी मदमस्त होकर चल रहे था उसने अपना विशाल पैर उसके मस्तक पर रख दिया। पल भर में ही उसकी खोपड़ी चूर-चूर हो गई। यह दृश्य देख सिंह ने गंभीर स्वर में कहा, “जो मूर्खता से अहंकार करते हैं, उनका अंत ऐसा ही होता है।”
सीख: अहंकार और मूर्खता साथ-साथ चलते हैं, अतः जीवन में कभी भी घमंड नहीं करना चाहिए।
